Event Technology

Businesses are reshaping their offerings, undergoing paradigm shifts in their value chain due to the fast pace and the potential of technology to reach, retain consumers and build brands. There has never been an emphasis on replacing human resources with technology for better efficiency, productivity, though not all functions can be automated. Industries that heavily rely on manpower like brick and motor also make the optimal use of technology and rely less on manpower, these days. Event management industry has quickly embraced this reality.

Event management industry not only makes an optimal use of technology but continues to reinvent their business model. Virtual seminars, walls embedded with LED lamps to display various colours in tune with the music played by the DJ’s at parties, LED screens to display the name/video of the brands and sponsors of corporate events and there is a constant evolution. Event management professionals are also expected to roll up their sleeves and hone with multiple and need based skills to service existing clients, penetrate new markets and potential areas of business interests. The assumption holds well in the context of technology for events management. ‘Event management is no more about doing ten tasks at one month but it entails one to use ten technologies to deliver hundred tasks or even more in a month.’ Measurement of results, activities, delegate/guest feedback and deliverables of conferences and events through relevant software programs is a boon to this industry.

The online medium has harnessed the potential of event management industry in creating the necessary buzz and attention to their events. Mobile applications and peer reviews ensure that event managers drive their business one-notch above their previous events. In addition to quality and timely information, technology has also helped in organising event invites at zero costs. A case in point is Facebook events.

On the flip side, too much of dependence on technology impacts creativity in a negative manner. Chief guests and or key note speakers of conferences have scripts attached to prompters and the concept of ‘extempore,’ is not always relevant in many of the conferences and events of today. Speakers and panellists are also under severe time pressure to discuss and debate their views before the time ticker indicates the end of their session and may miss on some of the important aspects of their presentation. Pre recorded songs and albums are impediments for many DJ’s in creating their own masterpieces.

Personal services and cool experiences are the USPs of event management business be it lifestyle events or corporate seminars. While technology is here to stay, the fundamentals of event management business remains the same. Technology will enhance the delivery capability of event management professionals and improve the scope for the business. What is your take on this whole issue?

App-only strategy: The way to go

Jet setters, expats and tourists visiting Singapore for the first time will vouch for a similar experience through the country. People across educational, cultural and financial backgrounds are constantly fiddling their mobile devices like they can’t live without it. It is high time to reckon that the situation will be the same in India, soon.

Few e-commerce giants have already embraced this fact. Skeptic views by consumers, media and the initial roll-back of ‘app-only strategy’ by Flipkart and Myntra cannot belittle its tremendous benefits. Consumers can shop ‘on the go,’ and don’t have to be glued to their laptop or desktop. One can even expect smart phone prices to drop in future, if many e-commerce companies follow suit and adopt ‘app only strategy.’

An encomium on Flipkart’s ‘app-only strategy’ was published in Huffington Post. The article mentions that ‘app only strategy’ ensures that e-commerce companies that sell products through mobiles don’t lose the date of their consumers; unlike the case of selling it through the web, whereby the companies that own the web browsers will also own the data of the consumers of e-commerce companies.

App-only strategies will soon be a win-win situation for everyone. Let’s get ready to celebrate the digital revolution!

ABOUT
The best of sustainable food served in a skyscraping venue… Nestled in the 40th floor of Capital Green, the latest addition to Singapore’s roof-top restaurants is the best bet for jetsetters and couples. Credits are due to Chef Fernando Arevalo, who was trained in a Michelin-starred restaurant in New York for preparing a menu to the delight of carnivores, vegan lovers and pescatarians. Wide varieties of grass fed and hormone meats, open terrace bar and interiors make us wonder if this place is also suited for solo dining.
Organic ingredients and brightly colored dishes tempt you to order for more, even if the price is a bit high. Signature dishes include Beetroot Tortellini ($20), ring shaped pasta with bold purple orange and red colors (an ideal winner of food photography awards), Spicy Iberico Pork Presa ($40) with ingredients like sweet plump tomato relish and padrano peppers making it more zesty, Apricot and Lavender Souffle ($20) served with vanilla ice-cream to relish your taste buds and veal chop on roasted leeks with blackberries ($60), infused with more salt and pepper to let the veal taste better. The bar serves more than 350 different wines, while the raw bar boasts of dishes like Halibut Crudo ($24),cervice and citrus infusions and Sturia caviar ($90)made of traciatella cream, dill cucumber and potato celery blini.

THE DISHES WE LOVE

Alaskan King Crab Salad, Pineapple Rhum Baba and Homemade Bread with Dukkah Spice and Olive Oil.

Restaurant and Club review

1        Labyrinth restaurant

The feasting place of gluttons

Disclaimer: If you miss a business meeting after a sumptuous meal at Labyrinth restaurant, we are not responsible.

The price (98 SGD) for a multicourse meal is a befitting response to naysayers and their claims of Singapore being a frighteningly expensive place. Modern Singaporean, European and modern gastronomy in many dishes … The chefs seemed to have thought of cocktails while ideating the cuisines. You are spoilt for choices for good.

Open kitchen with 20 seats around it and a cool hippy crowd dressed in casual outwear relaxes you even more. After all their vocal chords know what a decent sound for the place is! There aren’t any funny scenes in the kitchen in the name of entertainment.

We would not be doing justice if we merely say that the meal is a treat. Tomato Steak’ tartare, mango yolk and soft shell crab with chilli crab ice cream and mantour crumbs… We have only mentioned starters.

The main course dishes are mouthwatering. Few of them are superfood quinoa with a rich curry and chicken balls, or siew yoke fan with roaster pork belly and ramen-flavoured risotto. As if this is not enough, the chef Han Li Guang is  planning for more dishes and combinations.

Ample choices of wine and desert complete your fine dining experience. We bet you have already made plans to invite your clients for business lunches here. No need to worry about business appointments, anymore!

1       Rakes Club

Las Vegas Style Clubbing Experience in Singapore

Air carriers that fly from Singapore and other parts of Asia to Las Vegas will soon lose many customers. The newly opened Rakes Club in Singapore, a Las Vegas-styled bottle service club is to be blamed for this.

Boasting of the longest LED screens in Asia, the club’s entrance is through an experience tunnel and it is fair to say that the prayers of Singapore party goers have been answered, finally. Best international DJ’s, theatrical and exotic performances by artists can tempt you to party harder than ever. You could be in trouble for bunking office on the next day. We advise not to update social media posts on your visit here!

And the club is in a race to top many lists. Champagne room with a collection of 1100 bottles and 30-litre Armand de Brignac champagne are ‘the first-of-the-kind in Singapore.’ Get ready to sip Dom Perignon, Ruinart Blanc de Blanc and Ruinart Rose, as well as limited edition Veuve Clicquot Yellow Constellation Jeroboam and other champagnes that are served immediately upon order (sans waiting time).

A glance at the eight private VIP booths in the dance floor makes us suspicious. We are guessing that only F1 parties will be hosted here. The rich vinyl materials of the dance floor compete with the LED screen backdrops in the walls and ceilings for more attention.

Whispers tell us that the high-end partying crowds of Las Vegas have already made many enquiries about this club!
